Seminario: "Synergies of UAV and Computer Vision Technologies: Enhancing Safety and Efficiency"
Giovedì 20 Febbraio 2025
Presso la Sala Gialla del DPIA
dalle ore 11 alle ore 12
Il seminario sarà tenuto dal Prof. Antonios Gasteratos, direttore del Laboratory of Robotics and Automation della Democritus University of Thrace (Grecia).
In this talk, we will explore the multifaceted roles of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), focusing on their function in various industrial applications. UAVs have gained a pivotal role as essential tools across numerous fields, primarily due to their versatility and ability to operate in challenging environments where human presence may be restricted or unsafe. This talk provides an overview of UAV technologies related to environmental perception, including advancements in geofencing and obstacle avoidance, which enable UAVs to navigate safely and autonomously. It will also emphasize the importance of safety in UAV operations, illustrating autonomous landing techniques in human-populated environments. Additionally, we will examine the role of machine learning algorithms in UAV-based object recognition, enabling the precise identification and classification of objects from above. Finally, through several applied research projects across sectors such as search and rescue, mining, and transport logistics, we will demonstrate how drones can enhance industrial and public safety while significantly improving operational efficiency.
